Lee « Scratch » Perry, one of the most renowned jamaican producers, lived more revivals than most. He is now 73 years old, he is living another one. In a half century, he has been the instigator of over 1000 albums, under his name or his group’s, The Upsetters, but also for many other artists - each of them having a unique sound, very specific.
His first hit was Return of Django, a brass rocksteady instrumental, meant for an English “skinheads” audience. In the 70s, he becomes Bob Marley and the Wailers’ mentor. Through an erratic and intense relationship with Marley, he convinces him to sing Trench Town’s poverty and his Rasta beliefs.
Together they built the foundations of roots Reggae, which lead Marley to fame.

Freed from the weight of fashion and impervious to schools intimidations, Samia sings jazz, soul, reggae in the way she wants to. Just like the crayons she draws with and the papier mache she sculpts with, Samia makes music to express herself.
When she contacted legendary producer Adrian Sherwood, he accepted to work with her on her album. She also asked for Adrian Boot (Bob Marley’s photographer) to do the album’s shots, while she was supervising the graphism.
Samia excels in her heartstealer part. Sensual to pain, cynically inflexible, fatally quarrelsome, she finally offers us a brief vision of the one talent that rules all of the others : femininity. Samia dares not write about love, because : « …my words don’t live up to my feelings ».

The End of an American Dream is the new album by the legendary Lee “Scratch” Perry.
For the uninitiated, Lee “Scratch” Perry is one of the most important figures in the history of reggae music. Not only did he help develop the early reggae sound captured in a number of important recordings, but as an engineer, producer, songwriter, and performer he pioneered a number of innovations, including dub reggae and the “scratch” turntable effect used by DJ’s today.
Here, Lee Perry brings forward a timely narrative drawn from his spirituality and today’s global events, setting a seductive lyric and counterpoint to a post-modern dub rhythm provided by multi-instrumentalist Steve Marshall and producer John Saxon.
Ever observant and at times playful, Lee Perry’s commentary touches us all.
